Target applicant: alumni from Faculty of Geography, UGM (Bachelor program)
The Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi (UASLP) has been part of a research network of the Centers for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD) since 2009; which includes close to 30 universities in America, Europe, Africa and Asia. IMaREC was founded in 2017 in Egypt with the collaboration of universities in Egypt (Ain Shams University), Germany (University of Applied Sciences, Cologne), Kenya (Kenyatta University), and Indonesia (Universitas Gadjah Mada). After the first generation, the program started in Indonesia in 2019 and in San Luis Potosi in 2020.
The IMaREC seeks to develop in professionals, from different disciplines of knowledge, the necessary skills to face the complex problems of cities as a system with an interdisciplinary and systemic approach. As a result, they will be able to recognize the importance of resource efficiency to achieve social equity, environmental protection, and the overall sustainability of the city system. As of 2021, the program has the recognition from the Padrón Nacional de Posgrados del CONACYT (a national postgraduate register by Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología) and, therefore, scholarships for applicants who meet the requirements are available.
Interesting information for applicants:
• Scholarship awards are equivalent to 480 Euro/month (2,880 Euro per semester) for the whole 24 months of duration (September 2022 – August 2024). This is only as maintenance money not to be used for research, a salary.
• This amount is much higher than minimum wage and it is enough for a student for all living expenses, mostly sharing rent.
• The program has a total fee of around 720 Euros for the whole program or 180 Euro per semester.
• A few things from the call are not expected to be met by foreign students as national examinations and other.
• The most important issue for foreign students is to compare their final grade average from their bachelor’s program and convert it into a 0 – 10 or 0 – 100 grading system, where 10 or 100 is the highest score. Minimum grade average to be considered for a scholarship is 7.8 or 78. Conacyt (the government’s) office decides the number scholarships awarded based on a variable fund for the university, with priority for the top ranking students.
• Due to the passing of COVID’s fourth wave, courses and research will be face-to-face in the classroom (in Mexico). Any arrangements for students for their 3rd and 4th semester to work on their thesis from their own countries or elsewhere can be decided by their academic committee, given the importance of the last year stay in a different country or city within Mexico related to their research.
• Thesis could be written fully in English as already do.
At this point the registration site is in Spanish but the program coordinator can help students through the process. Lectures are currently in Spanish but depending on foreign enrolment we’d be migrating to English.
