The Faculty of Geography UGM acknowledges the diversity of Indonesia as one of its precious assets in building the three pillars of higher education (Tridharma).
Established in 1963, the Faculty of Geography has transformed into a global player in the field of Geography Higher Education worldwide. The dedicated efforts of the civitas of the faculty across generations over the past 59 years have brought the Faculty of Geography into the top 150 in the world according to the QS World University Rankings and the best in Indonesia. Excellent accreditation for all undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs has been reinforced with international accreditation from ASIIN (Accreditation in Engineering Computer Sciencies Natural Sciences Mathematics)for all undergraduate programs. With the 83 lecturers, and 74% of whom hold doctoral degrees, has been strengthened the academic quality at the Faculty of Geography. The Faculty of Geography has proven that “achievement is a tradition”. This global reputation is supported by various innovations in education, teaching, human resources, infrastructure, research, and national-regional-global partnership networks.
The Faculty of Geography UGM always strives to be not only responsive but also anticipatory towards ongoing changes to face an unpredictable future and the multiple disruptions caused by the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic. Innovations in education include blended learning systems, digitalization of academic content, and agile curricula adaptive to the needs of the 21st century, all of which represent continuous improvement that is always carried out. The ultimate goal of the educational and teaching process at the Faculty of Geography UGM is to produce excellent and innovative human resources, agile powerful learners capable of becoming future leaders.
In addition to the disruptions above, the global challenges our planet continues to face include global warming, climate change, air-water-soil pollution, population migration, environmental degradation, which impact the decreasing of human life quality, disaster threats, and food and health crises. In response to these challenges, the Faculty of Geography UGM has prepared three undergraduate programs and five magister’s and doctoral programs.
The Faculty of Geography UGM provides an inspirational and innovative curriculum designed to shape agile and inspiring leaders with practical analytical skills, research capabilities, and 21st-century practical skills in the field of Geography, capable of bringing about positive change in the management of resources and sustainable environments. Graduates of the Magister’s Program at the Faculty of Geography UGM are highly adaptive and always contribute harmoniously in various fields of work, whether in government, industry, non-governmental organizations, or as entrepreneurs in related fields.
